» Introduction:

Tal R is currently one of the most active artists in Denmark. In his solo exhibition "The Sum", which is now held at Louisiana Museum for Moderne Kunst, he approaches dual media, sculpture and painting, armed with only seven colors: brown, red, black, white, pink, yellow, and green, which allows him to focus on the fundamental composition. While it could be considered that by limiting color, he also limits expression and becomes stoic; however, once completed, the systematic nature expressed allows one to feel the energy within. His works cannot be considered among traditional abstract arts: his styles include bold overlapping works, story-like images, pop, and combinations of large geometric patterns.
"The aim is to say something with painting, not about painting." (Press release for "The Sum" at Louisiana Museum for Moderne Kunst) In this way, he has not forgotten the search for meaning in the midst of artistic expression. In this way his works function as devices that revive story-like playbacks of memories deep within our minds.

» Concept:

This exhibition features part two of the series "Alone in Tree", which was displayed at the Contemporary Fine Arts booth of the Basel Art Fair (Summer, 2007). This series include seven new works, both painting and sculpture as well as photos and cutout illustrations, with mixed motifs of trees and flowers, clouds, humans, male genitalia, rain, and seeds.
