» Concept:

Makiko Kudo paints images based on daily experience and observation, for instance greenery, a rivers seen while walking, her home, a cat,a floating moon in the night sky, a dreaming girl. Kudo's paintings have her own fantasy and the lightness of a fragile dream. They are infused with the sweet longing of memory. The works reflect Kudo's strong memory of childhood experience, particularly her reading many children books in which many scenes paintings share this structure, multiple stories coexistin the same picture.
Kudo says "My childhood and recent memories are mixed, I don't know why, but I only paint what I have seen or experienced. My paintings reflect my actual memory." Kudo painted reality is the result of a harmony created when recent and past memory are mixed in an imaginary girlish style.
The work's free touch and dynamic structure make for a strong viewing experience.
