| Naoki Koide was born in Aichi prefecture, Japan in 1968. He was graduated from Tokyo Zokei University, Figurative Arts Department in 1992. He has been working based on Tokyo and having a group exhibition in his home town, Aichi. There was a group exhibition<MAGIC ROOM> at PROJECT ROOM of Tomio Koyama Gallery last year and this time will be his first solo exhibition. His sculpture works are unique deformation figures and modeled a bizarre living creature. Smooth surface texture and comical molding, his works seem like jumping up from somewhere an attraction park. The artist gives his works the everyday life karma. What the most interested in for the artist is that the existence which is strongly connected own his everyday life. He consciously makes the everyday life atmosphere into his works. The artist do not pursuit the reality of the human being. Ennui expression on the thumb-like big faces, one's eyes wander, loosen lips, and unballanced limb; the artist freely makes human figures. His sculptures shines up not only in somewhere in the sense of detachment from the surroundings but it has a strong connection of the everyday life. The leading character of this exhibition is one couple. The artist himeself images for this couple is ideal one. The relationship between this couple always changes; brother and sister, parent and child. The role of this couple cannot be categorized. The main stage of this couple is the places where we are very familiar with;a bathroom and a bed room. The enviroment, where the couple is living, gives the different effect to them. In this exhibition, there are also several unique creatures beside this couple. Please come to the gallery and have a look at this mysterious but feel somewhat relieved couple. |
