Makiko Kudo

Tomio Koyama Gallery is pleased to the debut exhibition of artist Makiko Kudo.
Makiko Kudo was born in 1978 in Aomori Prefecture. She graduated from Joshibi University of Art and Designe, Department of Painting, lives and works in Tokyo.
In 2001 Kudo participated in 'Geijyutsu Dojyo GP' which organaized by the artist Takashi Murakami. At this event, Tomio Koyama discoveredthe artist, since the Kudo has participate the several group exhibitions including 'Tokyo Girls Bravo 2' (Nadiff, Tokyo), Pia magazine 1000 issue anniversary exhibition 'do hope for the future7 (Laforet Museum, Tokyo).
Makiko Kudo paints images based on daily experience and observation,for instance greenery, a rivers seen while walking, her home, a cat,a floating moon in the night sky, a dreaming girl. Kudo's paintings have her own fantasy and the lightness of a fragile dream. They are infused with the sweet longing of memory. The works reflect Kudo's strong memory of childhood experience, particularly her reading many children books in which many scenes paintings share this structure, multiple stories coexistin the same picture.
Kudo says 'My childhood and recent memories are mixed, I don't know why, but I only paint what I have seen or experienced. My paintings reflect my actual memory.' Kudo painted reality is the result of a harmony created when recent and past memory are mixed in an imaginary girlish style.
The work's free touch and dynamic structure make for a strong viewing experience.
