辻直之は1972年静岡県生まれ。少年時代はマンガ家、アニメーターを志しました。95年に東京造形大学を卒業。現在は横浜市を拠点に制作しています。
大学では彫刻を専攻していましたが、近年は造形芸術と映像を組み合わせるアニメーション作品を制作。岩崎ミュージアム（横浜、02年）、Corvi- Mora Gallery（ロンドン、08年）などで個展をおこなった他、バンコク、ソウル、ロンドン、パリなどの映画祭や日本各地で作品を上映しています。『闇を見つめる羽根』（04）、『３つの雲』（05）がカンヌ国際映画祭監督週間に招待され、また05年には同映画祭のポスターも手がけました。2008年は「現代美術への視点6 エモーショナル・ドローイング」展（東京国立近代美術館、その後京都国立近代美術館に巡回）に出展。
小山登美夫ギャラリーでは2009年、京都で個展を行っています。
