エヴァン・ペニーは1953年南アフリカ生まれ。1978年、アルバータ・カレッジ・オブ・アート修了。現在はカナダのトロントを拠点に制作活動を行っています。81年、カナダのエドモントン・ギャラリーで行われた展覧会以降、ペニーの作品はカナダを始め、アメリカやスペイン等で紹介されています。
近年の大きな個展 ”Absolutely Unreal”は、2004年から05年にかけて、カルガリーのGlenbow Museumほかカナダの美術館数カ所を巡回しました。また06年にクンストハウス・チューリッヒで行われたグループ展“The Expanded Eye: Stalking the Unseen”では、1940年代から現代に至るまでの130人を越える作家たちの一人として、オラファー・エリアソンやカールステン・へラー、ピピロッティ・リストなどとともに紹介されました。
